GENTING HIGHLANDS: For newly-crowned Malaysian Idol 2 (MI2) champion Daniel Lee Chee Hun, he is now a step closer towards realising his dream of becoming a recording artiste.
“It has been my dream to be a recording artiste. Before the show, I did not have the right avenue to realise it,” said the 23-year-old Kedahan, who is pursuing a degree in music at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Penang.
The third of five siblings and the only ‘musician’ in his family, Lee took part in many singing contests in Kedah, before making it big in MI2.
“My parents encouraged me to audition for MI2. I am grateful to them for their love and support, for their faith in me,” he said.
“I'd very much want to repay them by working hard to be a successful singer and entertainer, and a role model to young Malaysians.”
Lee said the MI2 experience taught him to be strong, confident and open-minded.
He said: “While the criticisms of all three contest judges "stung" me many a time, I greatly appreciate it, because they were honest and pointed out my flaws so that I can improve my singing.”
Lee said MI2 also trained him in singing English songs, and brought him new friends from around the country.
“We all became close like brothers and sisters. I'll always cherish this wonderful moment with my fellow contestants.”
Lee, who excels in playing the piano, guitar and violin, and composes his own songs, said while Malaysians voted him champion, he felt that all the top 11 contestants were winners.
“Each of us has a certain specialty. There are many songs which Nita (runner-up Norhanita Hamzah) sings, that I have yet to master.”
Lee said he was most comfortable singing in Bahasa Malaysia because it was the first formal language he learnt before English and Chinese.
He said he planned a mix of English, Malay and Chinese songs in his debut album. He plans to be a full-time singer.
He said he would love to collaborate with Nita and second runner-up Farah Asyikin Zulkifli, because they both have their musical strengths which complement his.
Nita, 25, of Gombak, said she was grateful to her mother for encouraging her to audition for MI2.
The nightclub singer with eight years' experience said MI2 helped her improve self-confidence and singing greatly.
Nita, the third of five siblings, can sing in English, Malay and Chinese.
“MI2 is my first major singing contest, too. I'm very happy to have been part of the MI2 experience which taught me about friendship and self-improvement,” she said.
She said she had great respect for the MI2 judges especially Paul Moss for his brutal honesty in pointing out her musical flaws.
Nita would love to sing with Lee again. She is all praises for his unique falsetto voice and calls him the MI2 "Falsetto King".
Lee received 68 per cent of the 1.67 million votes sent during the grand finale here while Nita received 32 per cent. Last year's finale had only a million votes.
Lee won himself a Sony-BMG recording contract.

Daniel Melangkah Setapak Ke Depan Untuk Mencapai Mimpinya

Dari The Malay Mail

GENTING HIGHLANDS: Juara Malaysian Idol 2 (MI2), Daniel Lee Chee Hun kini sudah melangkah setapak ke depan untuk mencapai mimpinya menjadi artis terkenal.
"Sejak kecil lagi saya ingin menjadi seorang artis.
Katanya: "Kritikan hakim MI2 kadang-kadang menyengat, tetapi saya amat menghargainya sebab mereka amat jujur dalam memperbetulkan kesilapan saya agar saya layak bergelar penghibur."
"Kami semua menjadi amat rapat macam adik-beradik.
Dia amat menghormati hakim MI2 terutama Paul Moss kerana bersikap jujur memperbetulkan kesilapannya.
Nita ingin berganding suara dengan Lee semula. Dia berkata suara falsetto Lee memang unik dan dia patut digelar "Raja Falsetto" MI2.
Lee mendapat 68 peratus daripada 1.67 juta undi peminat semasa konsert akhir MI2. Nita mendapat 32 peratus.
Lee memenangi kontrak rakaman Sony-BMG.
